The Meijin Iaito, designed for the Iaido practitioner who has progressed to the stage whereby use of a sharpened blade is permitted, is an amazing testament to the quality of the workmanship of the craftsmen of Hanwei.
The blade is handforged and folded from T10 high-carbon steel with grooves (bo-hi) on both sides, producing a blade whose weight is consistent with Iaido swords, whose profile produces excellent audible feedback in a controlled stroke and whose strength and edging permit light target cutting.
The blade is differentially tempered, using the traditional claying technique, producing a prominent hamon and a stunning grain pattern (hada) with visible layering.
The tsuka is wrapped in ray-skin (same) with a premium-quality black Japanese cotton tsuka-ito.
The black iron tsuba, fuchi and kashiri are crafted in a "Turbulent Ocean" motiv, with a one-piece habaki.
The saya is superbly finished in black matt/gloss lateral striping with a Japanese cotton sageo and buffalo horn fittings.
The Meijin model represents the pinnacle of production quality for Iaido swords.
