Responding to customer requests for a practical sword with a longer tsuka, the 'Practical Pro' katana's 15 inch grip is balanced by a somewhat longer and thicker blade than the norm, providing exceptional cutting power in skilled hands.
The blade is hand-forged in high-carbon steel and differentially tempered, using the traditional claying method, to produce a hardness of 60 HRC at the edge and 40 HRC on the back, and thus the temper line or hamon is authentic.
The saya or scabbard is finished in a deep black laquer and the sageo or scabbard-wrap is woven in black Japanese cotton.
Underneath the wrapping two small ornaments or menuki are placed.
The synthetic leather tsuka-ito or or handle-wrap is chosen for it's tactile qualities and will provide a secure grip on this big sword.
The antiqued iron fuchi or gripsleeve and koshira or pommel complement the Kuruma tsuba or guard, which represents the 'Wheel of Dharma' symbolizing the Buddhist concept of the Noble Eightfold Path.
