Wabocho manufacturing

Hand forging
The glowing blank made of iron and carbon steel is forged into shape by a hand-operated hammer. This process is determined visually by the cutler with a precision aquired by many years of experience.

Hand honing
The exceptional sharpness and elegant appearance of the Wabocho is achieved over the course of more than 20 grinding and polishing processes.
Natural stones of diverse grain size as well as bamboo and other materials are used.

Handle assembly
The blade and handle of a Wabocho are joined together by firing.
This is a special technique with a long tradition in Japan.
