The **ESEE model 5** is a solid survival knife with a 1095 carbon steel blade. The extremely sustainable powder coating on the blade helps to protect it from the major rust sensitivity of carbon steel. The amazing utilisation properties of the steel make sure you will enjoy it for life. The full tang blade has been enhanced with a micarta handle. This handle feels slightly rough which is great for the grip and comfort. The ESEE model 5 is a large and solid knife which can handle heavy-duty tasks. Compared to the other ESEE-models the ESEE 5 has a relatively thick 6.5 mm blade. In case these measurements and the weight are too much the Model 4 or Model 3 are great, and smaller, alternatives.


## ESEE Model 5 handle


The ergonomics of this handle are great. The handle is enhanced with a curve for your index finger. The handle is long. As such even someone with large hands will have enough room. The back of the knife has been fitted with a large hole for a lanyard. And the tip also functions as a glass breaker.


The handle also has a gap called the ‘bow drill divot’. You can use this gap to make a fire by quickly rotating a wooden rod on a wooden surface while holding slightly flammable material next to it. It is the most basic way of making fire, but it can work amazingly well. You can at least say that when you own a Model 5 you will be prepared for anything.

Je connaissais esee depuis quelque temps j'ai décidé de m'en offrir un et je suis pas du tout déçu sa respire la solidité sa donne envie de partir à l'aventure.

Le Esee 5 est un outil de qualité supérieure qui ne vous décevra pas dans les situations les plus difficiles. Avec sa lame robuste, son manche confortable et son étui pratique, il est un choix idéal pour les amateurs de plein air et de survie qui cherchent un couteau fiable et polyvalent.

le SI5 : indestructible ; bonne tenue en main ; aiguisage facile ; indispensable en nature ou survie en cas de coup dur climatique .

I am a knife novice , just getting into survival and bushcraft, so i will not be escaping from any downed helicopters anytime soon (apparently what this knife was designed for!!)
This knife is heavy , so good for chopping; you can make tinder really fast. Great grippy handle. The 'break glass 'point means that it is not so easy to hammer this knife from the handle end.(you can hammer it but risk dulling the point)   Not sure if the point will come in useful for other things but i expect it would. I am expecting this knife to be indestructible, so will update the review in ...10 years!
