1000 grit, I read a lot of reviews and watch too many videos before making this purchase. Splash and go was how I wanted to use a stone. After use, I think the stone is softer than I was lead to believe, creates a fine paste as you sharpen , so you are wearing the stone ! Although this is minimal . I was supprised how fine the 1000 was from unboxing I thought it felt finer than the 3000 but the cut of the 1000 is faster and courser on the edge of the blade. Again this stone produces a sharp blade but I wouldn’t describe it as smooth. I am using the stone with a 400 - 3000. For normal honing I would be happy to just use the 3000 , for recovery the 1000 is not course enough for me , takes too long . 3 knives , 3 stones , not rushing and enjoying 30 minutes. Make sure you have a clear area as you will make a bit of a mess with the water and slurry

A very good whetstone, a great bevel setter for razors, I would highly recommend the Naniwa Professional 3000 after this stone and I am more impressed with the 3000.

Great stone. Ready to go after 3 or 4 minutes soaking and raised a burr on my Wusthof classics in half the time it takes my KDS 1000. I was worried that it would be much slower than it is and had considered the Naniwa 800 but I'm glad I went with the 1000.
