A beautiful set of knives contained within a simple yet elegant wooden case. If you’re expecting a highly polished, rich wood like Maghony or Walnut you’ll be disappointed nor does it have a nice velvet mount for the knives but for the price you pay for them you get a good set of working knives with a practical case to display them in when not using them. The knives themselves are Carbon Steel so will need more care and attention than stainless blades but the Carbon will hold its edge longer.

This was purchased as a Collector's item. It wasn't bought to be used. We had another box which we have passed on to our eldest son. It should be remembered that these are carbon steel blades so are prone to corrosion, even just from simple handling. They do not all arrive really sharp so if you are going to keep a box for the same reason as us I would advise the following: 1) Sharpen the whole set to scalpel-like keenness, if you're not up to it get a professional to do it. 2) Coat the blades in Camellia oil or ACF50. 3) Coat the handles and presentation box with several coats of pure Tung oil. As it soaks in it takes longer and longer to dry. 4) Keep some sachets of silica gel inside the box. It prevents moisture attacking the blade steel but also keeps the pin joint dry and free. 5) Get them out from time to time to enjoy them. 6) Make sure you always have alternative Opinels to use to prevent you breaking into the colour-matched set.

My wife and I have been using odinel knives for picnics, general kitchen and so forth, since friends gave us a pair for Christmas many years ago. A move of house led to their disappearance, and the purchase of this set was a final present to ourselves in our new home . Now we have the right sized knife for every job, and the problem is preventing me from removing some to the workshop, where they are so useful...
