Buying guide saws: which serrations do I need?

You might already know which saw will suit you best. But which serrations will work best? In this buying guide we will tell you which wood is most efficiently cut with which type of saw.

A saw with coarse serrations

Coarse serrations will efficiently cut through fresh wood. That is why you can often find this type of serrations on saws that are perfect for bushcraft and outdoor purposes, but also on pruning saws. A saw with coarse serrations is, for instance, enhanced with 6 teeth every 30 mm. The number behind the saw indicates the number of teeth per 30 mm. The smaller this number the coarser the serrations.

A saw with medium serrations

The perfect all-rounder! Choose a saw with medium serrations (10 teeth per 30 mm) if you are looking for an all-rounder: a saw that can do it all. With these serrations the saw can handle anything without it taking too much effort.

A saw with fine serrations

These saws are enhanced with 14-32 teeth per 30 mm. Fine serrations can come in handy when handling dry or hard wood. Think of pruning hard types of wood such as beech and oak wood but also fruit trees. Or wood work. When you use fine serrations you hardly have to finish your work.
