I love this design: very ergonomic, nicely rounded, and with a hollow grind (so rare!).
I bought all versions: D2, 10Cr, and Damascus 10Cr + 9Cr.
Design: 8.5/10 (CRK Backpacker 9/10, similar and also with a hollow grind, safer grip, longer handles, slightly better).
For metallurgy, from best to worst: D2 (8/10), 10Cr15MoV (7/10; inconsistent, Takefu VG10 is superior, keener edge and more consistent), Damascus (7/10).
Damascus gets a bonus for the artistic touch and originality; I like it a lot, even if it has lower performance than monolithic modern steels (D2, CPM CruWear, 4V, Magnacut, K390, K110).
Always keep Damascus available, both 100% Damascus and SanMai Damascus (monolithic core, better performance but not a true Damascus experience).
My favourite blade is D2, hands down: so much better to sharpen and with a keener apex.
Chinese 10Cr15MoV should be refined more, even if the composition is identical to Takefu VG10; VG10 is better.
10Cr15MoV should be enriched with 1.4% carbon, 3% vanadium, 2% tungsten, 1% niobium (grain refinement), and 15% chromium (no more, negative for accuracy).
The current formulation is nothing special; VG10 can also be enriched, with the same suggestions.
Damascus should abandon 9Cr and mix only D2 and 10Cr15MoV; that would create an even better contrast in the acid-etch phase, and D2 + 10Cr would be a richer mix, with way more carbon thanks to D2.
I don't like the leather sheath, but it is well done: 7.5/10. The Kydex sheath, on the other hand, is excellent: 9/10, high retention and 2 mm robust Kydex, I love it.
The rounded G10 scales are awesome. I also really like green Micarta and wood; keep the variety, all excellent options.
Fit and finish are excellent, fantastic for the price: 8/10.
For this version, I would recommend switching to D2 steel and a Kydex sheath (like the Micarta model).
Factory consistency should also be tightened a lot; I sharpen many Elementum Fixed Blades, I am an expert, and some felt rough, others felt good (especially the 10Cr15MoV models, the most inconsistent). The Ruike F186 D2 has much superior consistency across batches; all Ruikes were identical, 1:1.
Always use cryogenics, high HRCs of 60-61, and double tempering to refine the internal steel structure further, mandatory.
This model is awesome, keep it in production, always with a hollow grind and many handle choices.
An upgrade to CPM CruWear (9/10) will be fantastic, but D2/K110 is my favourite ingot steel and very cost effective.
I never get tired of D2/K110.
In the current line-up, my number 1 recommendation is the D2 + green Micarta model, definitely the best blade.
But this G10 rounded-scales model is very comfortable and nice.
