These rechargeable NiMH batteries hardly lose their capacity when not in use and perform better in many circumstances compared to other batteries with higher capacity!
A 'regular' NiMH AAA battery has a capacity of about 1000mAh to 1350 mAh, but after several months has lost a large part of its capacity.
The Eneloop AAA batteries have a smaller capacity (750mAh) but can last a really long time when not being used. After 12 months they still have about 90% of the capacity, while other rechargeable batteries are just about empty at that time. In addition, a lower internal resistance means that the efficiency is increased and less energy is lost in the form of heat. In practice the difference between batteries with a higher capacity is negligible.
