The Bark River MACV Recondo Bowie is a cool fixed knife, designed by Matt Martin from Vehement Knives. The name MACV stands for Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group. A division in the American army which specialized in unconventional warfare during the Vietnam war. The MACV-SOG knife from that time is truly a classic in the knife world.
The blade is made from CPM 154CM. A premium type of stainless steel that retains its sharpness well. As you might expect from Bark River the knife is razor-sharp. The edge has been enhanced with a convex grind which you can maintain by stropping it.
The handle of the Bark River MACV-SOG Recondo Bowie is made from stacked leather. These are stacked leather discs which, combined, form one comfortable handle. On both sides the handle is flanked by a brass knife guard and a brass pommel. The amount of manual labour involved is unimaginable for a (semi-)production knife such as this.
The Bark River MACV-SOG comes with a luxurious belt sheath. The included belt loops can also be attached on a MOLLE web.
Bark River makes all of its knives almost completely by hand. As such each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials a knife can differ from the photographs. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
