The Naniwa Chosera 1000 whetstone uses magnesia as binder for the abrasive, in this case white aluminium oxide.  

  


The Chosera stones do not soak up any water so the stones do not need to be sprinkled with water frequently. This makes Chosera stones rather easy to sharpen with. Because of their hardness you will not cut into the stone easily and sharpening with these stones will take less time. Their hardness make them a good choice for knives made from hard steel.  
  


Splash with water before and during sharpening, do not soak or store in water.
  

**About grit sizes**  

Whetstones come in various grit sizes. The higher the number, the finer the grit. A finer grit results in a sharper knife. Sharpening a really dull knife on a fine grit will take much time, so you will need to treat it on a coarser grit first.  
  



* 120 - 600: Appropriate when real dull knives need to be brought back in the right shape

* 800 - 1,000: Appropriate to sharpen knives that were already in a reasonable state

* 2,000 - 3,000: For a result sharper than most knives are when they leave the factory

* 5,000 - 12,000: To polish the knife and get a razor sharp edge



**Remarks pertaining to Chosera sharpening stones**  

During manufacture, Chosera sharpening stones are bound with magnesium. This superior production method guarantees superb results. However, these magnesium-bound stones are more prone to developing hairline cracks. To prevent this from occurring, it is important NOT to use too much water when wetting Chosera sharpening stones. So Chosera stones should NEVER be left to soak in water for a prolonged period of time! It is also important to dry these stones thoroughly after use and store them in a dry, dark place.

Der Stein ist schön hart gebunden und sorgt für ordentlich Abrieb. Meinen Ansprüchen zum Setzen einer Facette bei Rasiermessern und nebenbei noch zum schärfen von Küchenmessern genügt der Stein voll. Dass er nicht vor Gebrauch gewässert werden muss erleichtert zudem die Anwendung!

Excellente pierre en pré-finition avant mes pierres 3 et 10 000.
Bien meilleure que les super stones, ça coûte un bras mais ça vaut bien son prix. elle est beaucoup plus dure , le socle est bon et l'usure imperceptible.
bonne taille pour travailler avec de grands couteaux et abrasifs très efficaces, j’adore. 


Een relatief prijzige steen, maar doet zijn naam goede eer aan door jou messen scherp te maken. Geschikt voor messen die tijdens normaal gebruik bot zijn geworden weer scherp te maken. Bij pas echte botte mes is raadzaam om grove korrel te nemen. Die ik nog bestellen moet.

Mijn eerste watersteen, en wat een feest. Eerst mijn oude mes erover, om wat gevoel te krigen hoe het werkt - dat bleek supereenvoudig, mede dankzij de video's op de site. Mes is met een beetje werk een STUK scherper, zonder dat ik naarmijn messensliep hoef. Ondanks dat ik de steen gekocht heb voor mijn 61 graden harde mes, dus ook zeer geschikt voor zachtere, Duitse, messen. Snelheid van levering en kwalifeit van communicatie en verpakking was, zoals ik inmiddels gewend ben, absolute top van Knivesandtools. Koopt allen!
