**In a nutshell:** 

Top-quality Japanese water stone, grain 10.000. Comes with a traditional cloth to make sure it won't slip (make it wet before use) and a small stone to clean the stone. Large size stone: 21 x 7 x 3 cm. Own import, so very affordable!

**Advantages of the Naniwa 'Chosera' collection:** 

  * Low moisture absorption: After adding water you can immediately get to work.

  * Very high hardness, so the knife won't cut into the stone. As such sharpening with soft stones is a lot faster.

  * Very long life

  * Large size stone. Works faster and easier than most regular stones.

  * Because the stone slowly wears out it stays clean and sharp. However, because of its hardness you do occasionally need to clean the stone with the included cleaning stone.

*Please note: Naniwa Chosera water stones cannot be stored in a tub of water because this will negatively affect the quality of the stone.*

**About the grain size** 

Sharpening stones are available in different grain sizes. The higher the number, the finer the grain size and the sharper the results. 

When you start sharpening you start with the coarse grain and continue towards a finer grain. 

  * 200 to 600: to pre-sharpen blunt knives

  * 800 to 1000: to sharpen and maintain knives that are in good condition

  * 2000 to 3000: for sharper results than factory-ready

  * 5000 to 10000: for razor-sharp results 

**To keep in mind with the Chosera sharpening stones** 

Chosera sharpening stones are made from bound magnesium. This is a superior production method which is great for the final results. It does, however, mean these stones are more sensitive for small cracks. To prevent this from happening make sure the Chosera sharpening stones don't get too wet. They don't have to be saturated with water. So don't submerge the Chosera sharpening stones! It is also important they are properly dried after use and stored in a dry, dark place.

The Naniwa Chosera 10000 (10k) whetstone uses magnesia as binder for the abrasive, in this case white aluminium oxide.  


The Chosera stones do not soak up any water so the stones do not need to be sprinkled with water frequently. This makes Chosera stones rather easy to sharpen with. Because of their hardness you will not cut into the stone easily and sharpening with these stones will take less time. Their hardness make them a good choice for knives made from hard steel.  
  


Splash with water before and during sharpening, do not soak or store in water.

**About grit sizes**  

Whetstones come in various grit sizes. The higher the number, the finer the grit. A finer grit results in a sharper knife. Sharpening a really dull knife on a fine grit will take much time, so you will need to treat it on a coarser grit first.  
  



* 120 - 600: Appropriate when real dull knives need to be brought back in the right shape

* 800 - 1,000: Appropriate to sharpen knives that were already in a reasonable state

* 2,000 - 3,000: For a result sharper than most knives are when they leave the factory

* 5,000 - 12,000: To polish the knife and get a razor sharp edge



**Remarks pertaining to Chosera sharpening stones**  

During manufacture, Chosera sharpening stones are bound with magnesium. This superior production method guarantees superb results. However, these magnesium-bound stones are more prone to developing hairline cracks. To prevent this from occurring, it is important NOT to use too much water when wetting Chosera sharpening stones. So Chosera stones should NEVER be left to soak in water for a prolonged period of time! It is also important to dry these stones thoroughly after use and store them in a dry, dark place.

Eerst had ik de Naniwa supersteen 12000 (dewelke ook een goede slijpsteen is), maar gezien ik nogal veel scheermessen slijp besloot ik die te vervangen door de Chosera 10000. Deze is harder, blijft veel langer vlak en heeft voor mij een prettiger gevoel tijdens het slijpen. Absoluut geen spijt van de aankoop, alhoewel ik hierna nog een extra finisher gebruik (Suehiro Gokumyo 20K) is het perfect mogelijk om vanaf deze steen te scheren!


Die Chosera starten eh ausser Konkurrenz. Ausgezeichnete Steine, etwas teurer, aber die schafft man sich eh nur einmal an. Dieser Stein ist der absolute Hammer.

Deze steen maakt mijn reeks Chosera stenen compleet, de steen is zalig om op te slijpen, en je voelt ook onmiddellijk dat dit een zeer harde steen is, waardoor het happen van het mes in de steen veel minder gebeurt . Dit is een steen voor vele jaren, en bijgevolg ook zijn geld waard.

Zeer snelle levering van de steen, ook in België heb je het pakje 's anderdaags in huis ! De snelheid en de service van Knifesandtools is reeds lang gekend.

Ik doe survival en trekking en heb al verschillende slijpstenen gebruikt.Zowel gewone goedkope geperste stenen (fijne en groffe kant) als de duurdere technische diamandslijpset op olie van Lansky.Je krijgt je mes dan wel scherp maar zeker niet vlijm scherp (scheermes).Met de Lanskyset lukt het wel iets maar is niet goed voor jachtmessen en de grotere zakmessen.Met de waterstenen van Nanima Chosera is het wel mogelijk om alle messen,zowel de grotere als de kleine vlijmscherp te krijgen.De 10000 steen werkt echt heel prettig en geeft een scheermes scherp resultaat.Deze steen heeft een heel hoge hardheid wat heel plezierig slijpt.Het is een top kwaliteitssteen voor de afwerking van je mes.Ik kan hem zeker aanbevelen aan iedereen die een vlijmscherp mes wil bekomen op een zeer gemakkelijke manier.De filmpjes op knivesandtools leggen de manier van slijpen heel goed uit en daardoor is het heel gemakkelijk om zelf aan de slag te gaan.Servises van knivesandtools is echt top!!
