New: Morakniv Mörkret series. The biggest Morakniv survival knives!

The new Morakniv Mörkret series consists of heavy-duty survival knives for demanding survival and tactical use. The blade is 153 mm long and 4.2 mm thick, with a full-tang construction running through the entire handle. This makes it the largest and thickest blade Morakniv has made to date. If you are looking for a highly robust survival knife for tough conditions, the Mörkret is worth considering. Choose from three steels: Swedish stainless 14C28N, German 100Cr6 carbon steel and Uddeholm Elmax® SuperClean. The latter stands out in particular, as it is the first Morakniv ever with Uddeholm Elmax® SuperClean.

Mörkret means “the darkness” in Swedish and is the name of a small village in northern Dalarna. In 1997, one of the heaviest cloudbursts in modern Swedish history struck this area. The huge amount of rain changed the landscape, washing away roads and bridges among other things. Morakniv chose the name as a reference to a knife you need to be able to rely on when nature shows its most unforgiving side.

The Mörkret is made in Mora and builds on 135 years of Swedish knifemaking experience. Together with, among others, the Amberg and Risberg, the series further expands Morakniv's outdoor family.

Features of the Morakniv Mörkret series

All knives in the Morakniv Mörkret series share the same foundation. The 153 mm-long, 4.2 mm-thick blade has a full-tang construction: the steel runs through the entire handle, giving the knife maximum strength. The cutting edge extends far towards the handle, allowing you to work closer to the material and transfer force in a controlled way. The spine of the blade is suitable for a firesteel (ferro rod). The exposed end of the tang at the back is also sharpened. You can use it to scrape tinder or strike a ferro rod, for example.

With the Mörkret, Morakniv introduces a new high flat grind with secondary bevel. This geometry leaves more steel behind the edge, giving the blade added strength and durability during heavy use. The faceted grind near the tip pays tribute to knifemaker Carl Andersson, who became part of KJ Eriksson in 1961, the company now known as Morakniv.

The handle is new too: the Power Touch Grip. This fibreglass-reinforced handle combines a soft, grippy feel with high impact resistance. Its larger, coarser pattern provides extra grip in cold, wet conditions, while grooves on the top help you hold the knife securely when wearing gloves. Attach a cord or paracord through the lanyard hole.

The Mörkret comes with the new Click-On Sheath. This ambidextrous sheath can be carried on either the left or right side. The click-lock keeps the knife securely in place and lets you draw it from the sheath in a controlled way. The hole pattern is suitable for TEK-LOK accessories and MOLLE-compatible rails, giving you several ways to attach the sheath. The belt loop is made from durable LIBA Smart®, which Morakniv says is the same type of material used in the toe of climbing shoes. It works as a dangler, so the knife hangs lower and moves naturally with your body. There is also a secondary lock that can be fitted on either the left or right side.

The Morakniv Mörkret Black Blade (C) 14701 has a blade made from German 100Cr6 carbon steel, hardened to 57.5 HRC. The steel contains 1.3–1.5% chromium, which according to Morakniv provides greater toughness and slightly better corrosion resistance. It has a black DLC coating that gives the blade extra protection against corrosion while reducing reflections. Want tough carbon steel with a protective, low-reflection finish? Morakniv Mörkret (S) 14557 Survival knife in Swedish stainless steel

The Morakniv Mörkret (S) 14557 has a blade made from Swedish stainless 14C28N. This steel is cryogenically treated, hardened to 58 HRC and retains its edge well. Morakniv calls it a proven steel type that performs reliably in varying conditions. Want a reliable Mörkret in stainless steel and do not need the more specialised Elmax version?
