Degelijk mes. Voor het lichte gewicht toch erg solide. Geweldige vergrendeling die veel vertrouwen wekt en veilig aanvoelt. Fabrieksaf niet erg goed geslepen (hoek wijkt links en rechts wat af wat naslijpen voor zonder goede diamantsteen of geleider moeilijk maakt. Iets te duur voor wat je krijgt. Maar desalniettemin het mes wat ik in elke situatie het liefst bij me wil hebben. Daarom toch 5 sterren. Doorslaggevend zijn het gewicht en de stevige constructie. Ziet er trouwens ook bruut uit. Niet echt iets om in het openbaar je appel mee te schillen.

Weer een snelle en nette levering van K&T.
De recon 1 tanto is een zeer solide mes,en is volgens mij niet kapot te krijgen onder normaal gebruik.
Volgens mij is de coating nu ook verbeterd.
Ik had de recon 1 spear point al, met de tanto erbij 
is het feest compleet.

Voor mij was dit een verplichte aankoop. Ik ben namelijk een van die mensen die al jaren riep dat Cold Steel hun staal moest upgraden in de Recon en Lawman serie. Sterker nog, toen er op bladeforums een thead gepost werd met wat voor mensen hun heilige graal mes zou zijn heb ik de Cold Steel Recon 1 tanto in S35VN staal met een DLC coating genoemd.

S35VN is het niet geworden maar CTS-XHP komt voor mij dicht genoeg in de buurt. Het houdt op papier het midden tussen een geharde 440c en een roestvaste D2. Een behoorlijke vooruitgang tov AUS8a. De Recon 1 heeft misschien niet de hebbeding factor van een high-end titanium framelock mes met carbon schalen en exotische superstaal lemmet maar het is absoluut een van de beste no-nonsense functionele vouwmessen ter wereld. De dikke G10 schalen in combinatie met de Tri-Ad vergrendeling en het verbeterde stalen lemmet maken dit tot een formidabel werkpaard.

Als kers op de taart is trouwens de teflon coating die je met je vingernagel af kon krabben ook verruild voor een veel duurzamere coating. Klasse! 

Blijft er dan nog iets te wensen over? Uiteraard! Een vernieuwde deep-carry pocketclip zou het plaatje compleet maken maar dat zijn peanuts ten opzichte van de upgrade in staal.

Wat mij betreft mag de ge-upgrade versie van de American Lawman ook in het assortiment van K&T opgenomen worden.
