The DMT Duosharp stone is a large diamond stone that is ideal for sharpening large knives. A part of the sharpening surface has the well-known DMT circle-pattern and a small part is completely flat. Small chisels and other small tools can be sharpened on this part without getting stuck in the holes. Both sides of the stone have a different grain size.
This Hard coat material is equipped with special technology that makes the stone is even more sustainable when used with very hard steel types and ceramic knives.
The stone comes with a plastic base where it can be placed inside. Even a simple plastic clamp proves to be a convenient tool. It can be used sharpening stones with a measurement of 6, 8 and 10 inch. It can work in two different ways. The first is in a way that the base makes sure the stone doesn’t slip out underneath. You will only have to pay attention to sharpening at this point. The second way you can use it, is to use the grip on the bottom of the base. This way you move the stone of the edge you would like to sharpen.
With the DuoSharp stones, DMT indicates the grain size with a colour code. Although you can’t always see the colour through all holes, both sides show an obvious different colour as a whole. With these details DMT puts itself ahead of the competition.
Information about grain size of DMT sharpening stones
The grain size of a diamond stone and a water stone can’t be compared directly. This is because the construction and materials used are substantially different. A whetstone has the abrasive grains inside in the stone. These granules come out during sharpening which creates a type of sludge. A diamond stone has the particles stuck inside the surface of the stone.
Important to know
With DMT you can choose to sharpen dry or wet. The advantage wet sharpening is that the stone is lubricated and sharpening residue is drained. Only use water to sharpen and never oil. It is also good to know that a diamond sharpening stone should be used a couple of times before it reaches its full potential. A new stone will be a bit on the coarse side. After sharpening 5 to 10 knives it will work the way it should.
