Full description

ThisForge de Laguiole-set of table knivesconsists of two beautiful, handmade knives. The blades have a core of French stainless steel that is very fiercely sharpened and retains its sharpness for a long time. The olive wood handles radiate luxury and are equipped with the characteristic shepherd's cross in the shape of seven rivets. Of course, the Laguiole-typical little bee is also on the back of the blades.

Forge de Laguiole is the only producer of Laguiole knives that actually resides in the village of Laguiole. Other well-known brands, such as Fontenille Pataud and Laguiole and Aubrac, produce their knives in the adjacent Thiers. All knives are made by hand according to a fixed pattern. As it should be with a Laguiole knife maker, these knives are provided with handles made from the finest materials. Forge de Laguiole is also the only one that requires the use of quality steel from French soil at all times.

The origin of Laguiole knives

The production of the "Laguiole knives" as we know them, started in the early 19th century. The first knives appeared in 1829, probably inspired by the southern Spanish Navaja. The knives were originally intended primarily for farmers and shepherds from the region(hence the cross on the handle) Afterwards, the knife was further developed and wine openers with corkscrews were created as well.

After the First World War, almost all French knife production moved to Thiers, which is still the capital city of knives in France today. Some renowned Laguiole producers relocated. In the 1980s, the Forge de Laguiole brand was founded in the small village of Laguiole and still there till this day. For some, Forge de Laguiole is, therefore, the only "real" Laguiole brand.
