Full description
The Naniwa Multi Stone 510/530 is a double-sided sharpening stone from the Japanese sharpening specialist Naniwa. This water stone has a medium-fine side with a grit size of 1000 (red), and a fine side with a grit size of 3000 (yellow). As such, this stone is excellent for sharpening an already relatively sharp edge. Use the 1000 side to sharpen the edge, and then polish it with the 3000 side. To sharpen a knife that is actually blunt, it is better to opt for a coarser sharpening stone, such as the Multi Stone 502/510.
The Naniwa Multi Stone sharpening stones are relatively soft Japanese sharpening stones, of the quality you can expect from Naniwa. The grinding particles are aluminium oxide. They are the successor to the former Combination Stones and are produced in the same way in Vietnam. Production is strictly controlled by specialists from Japan, who ensure that nothing is lost in terms of quality.
Because the Multi Stones wear out slowly, unused abrasive grains constantly come to the surface. The sharpening stone therefore remains clean. Thanks to the thick grinding layer, these sharpening stones will nevertheless last for many years. For an optimal sharpening result, immerse the Multi Stones in water for a few minutes before use so they are fully soaked through before use.
