This **Shapton Glass Stone grain 220** is a coarse sharpening stone to restore the edge of blunt knives. With this sharpening stone you can quickly restore a blunt or damaged edge. Great if you have owned your knife for a couple of years but have never sharpened it before. The sharpening stone sharpens quickly and evenly. Which is exactly what we're looking for from a high-quality sharpening stone. Contrary to what you might expect from the name, the glass doesn't do the sharpening. You sharpen on a high-quality Japanese whetstone. A layer of tempered glass is attached to this to prevent bending. 

This stone is suitable for sharpening almost all types of knives. From outdoor knives to kitchen knives, from pocket knives to chisels. These stones really come into their own with hard steels in particular. Think of the modern powder steel types that you will find with pocket knives in the high segment.

## Shapton Glass Stone Splash & Go

This sharpening stone really is *splash & go*. That means you don't have to submerge it in water before use. Simply sprinkle some water onto it and the sharpening can begin. It removes material quickly, so the sharpening process is quick and easy. This also means the stone doesn't wear out as fast. The sharpening result is very even. The sharpening particles, made from white aluminium oxide, are very uniform in their shape and size. Zeer tevreden over deze slijpstenen van Shapton. Ook voor een houtbewerkingshobby zijn ze ideaal. Door de glazen plaat blijft de steen mooi vlak en stevig, ook als er al flink wat van het slijpmateriaal verdwenen is. Reguliere slijpstenen zullen dan gemakkelijk breken. 
Een ander voordeel is dat de slijpstenen niet, zoals wetstenen, eerst heel lang in water moeten weken om zich vol te zuigen. Simpelweg wat water er op doen en je kan beginnen met slijpen. Ideaal om een mes/beitel/schaafbeitel snel weer scherp te zetten.
Nadeel van de steen met korrel 220 is dat door de grove korrel de steen snel hol wordt bij gebruik. Deze steen zal je dus regelmatig moeten vlakken wanneer je er beitels en schaafbeitels mee gaat slijpen en vlakheid van de steen echt een vereiste is.

C'est une pierre très efficace, mais je dois dire que je suis déçu de sa faible durabilité. J'ai entrepris d'améliorer le biseau sur un couteau de cuisine en acier inox ordinaire. Il y avait un certain travail et ça s'est bien passé... mais après cette seule séance la pierre était visiblement creusée en son centre d'un ou deux millimètres ! Une vraie rampe de skateboard ! Je m'attendais à mieux de la part de Shapton, d'autant que l'acier travaillé n'était vraiment pas très dur. J'ai une Shapton glass #500 qui semble bien plus résistante à l'usure et donc plus recommandable. Il est dommage que sur les grains les plus grossiers Shapton ne monte pas en épaisseur sur les pierres de cette - excellente - série.
En résumé : une très bonne pierre qui s'use trop vite... et qui constitue donc un mauvais rapport qualité/prix. C'est pourquoi je regrette cet achat. Pour quelques euros de plus, J'aurais dû prendre une Shapton Pro #120, encore plus agressive et forcément bien plus durable...

Geweldige slijpsteen om snel weer vorm te geven aan de meest botte/beschadigde snedes van een mes. Daarna afwerken met de fijnere slijpstenen van Shapton Glass Stone.
