The Shapton Glass Stone grain 16000 lifts ultra-fine to a whole new level. With this sharpening stone you remove all tiny scratches and irregularities. The result is an edge that is so smooth as a mirror and with which you can cut without feeling any resistance. The sharpening stone sharpens quickly and evenly. Which is exactly what we're looking for from a high-quality sharpening stone. Contrary to what you might expect from the name, the glass doesn't do the sharpening. You sharpen on a high-quality Japanese whetstone. A layer of tempered glass is attached to this to prevent bending.

I had read and watched many bad reviews about this stone and eventually decided to try for myself...... Initialt I was alarmed about the chips a curing on my straight razor so I used 1000 gritt sandpaper on it and used under running water .....a vast improvement but wouldn't by again ....it might be fantastic for sharpening tools but I personally wouldn't recommend it for straight razors , cheap or expensive.

Delighted to get this stone at a reduced price, delivery was rapid and the packaging excellent. Will need to hone my sharpening skills to do justice to the product but have already seen what the highly polished edge on my plane iron can do. I now know why Rob Cosman raves abou these stones.
