The Bark River Bravo 1 was designed for (para)military use, specifically for the U.S. Marine Corps. Soon, however, it became evident that this knife can be used for so much more purposes. Throughout the years the Bravo 1 LT even became a popular knife amongst bush crafters and hunters. It has a solid construction and a thick enough blade for heavy-duty tasks. Perfect for woodwork, gutting game and many other outdoor tasks.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel. A strong type of steel which bends instead of breaks. You do, however, need to be careful when dealing with humidity and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. All you have to do is clean it after use and occasionally add a drop of oil to make sure the knife stays in great condition. The edge has a convex grind which you can keep in great shape by stropping it.
The handle is made from Desert Ironwood. A type of hardwood often found in the United States and Mexico. Characterizing is the lovely colour with the rich patterns. This attractive type of wood makes the knife look extra luxurious.
The Bark River Bravo 1 comes with a leather belt sheath (max. belt width 8.0 cm). The sheath also has a small loop with room for a firesteel (max. diameter ~7.0 mm).
Bark River makes most of its knives by hand. As a result each knife is unique. Especially when you use natural materials the knife can sometimes look different than it does on the photograph. Something to keep in mind when you receive your knife! The model and type of material will, however, always be the same.
