The Helle Alden is a solid hunting knife, designed by Gunnar Lothe. The name Alden comes from the island Alden, at the Norwegian coast, close to the Helle factory. This island is an important orientation point for fishermen. The knife has a blade made from Sandvik 12C27-steel. It is a razor-sharp, stainless edge. At the transition from handle to blade you find a stainless steel crop. This prevents your hand from slipping and ending up on the blade.
This knife feels like it was made for hunting purposes. We, however, also think this is an excellent bushcraft knife. The scandi edge is namely perfect for wood carving purposes.
The knife comes with a traditional Scandinavian leather sheath.
Maintenance of Helle knives
When the handle or the blade get wet, they need to be dried with a soft towel. It is recommended to wax or oil both on occasion.
The sheath should occasionally be impregnated with a colourless agent (grease or wax) to make sure it stays supple. Dry the sheath carefully at room temperature if it gets wet.
All Helle knives are made and finished by hand. As such each knife is unique because each pattern is different.
