Spyderco introduced the Byrd collection as a more affordable alternative for the famous, but often more expensive Spyderco knives. The knives are produced in China based on Spyderco's quality standards using good designs and materials. The blades are made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is comparable to the Japanese AUS8 stainless steel in terms of quality.
The Byrd Meadowlark model with stainless steel handle is a good example. The modified clippoint blade is easy to open with one hand with the comet-shaped hole in the blade, and locks when opened with a decent and reliable back-lock. As an extra safety precaution this back-lock has been enhanced with a so-called Boye-dent; a crescent-shaped cut-out that makes sure the knife won't close during heavy-duty use.
