The Glass Stone Seven diamond-coated Lapping Plate, 70100 is a nice lapping stone for the Shapton Glass Stone Seven sharpening stones. After all, to use the stones to their full extent they need to be flat. You can definitely leave this to this lapping stone. With the stone you can flatten stones that lightly lost their shape, up to 0.005 mm accurately. The grooves in the stone help you with the removal of the sharpening slurry. They catch the slurry and ensure that the diamond-coated stone can do what it is meant to do. How to use the lapping plate
Make the stone wet. Very wet. In fact: the more water the better, so we usually use this stone in the sink, under a running tap. The water quickly helps the slurry drain away which makes the whole process go a lot faster.
Before you start you need to use pencil to draw a grid on your sharpening stone. This helps you determine how long you need to flatten your stone. As such you don't remove too much stone. After drawing the grid you put the sharpening stone on the lapping plate. Move it diagonally, from corner to corner over the lapping plate. Because of this diagonal movement you use the surface to its full extent, making sure that the sharpening stone is evenly lapped.
