The Opinel Pocket knife with wooden handle in a cheerful color. Originally created by Joseph Opinel in 1890 for use by farmers. The Opinel Pocket knife is a famous, yet very cheap pocket knife for everyday use. The blade of stainless steel is provided with the simple but effective Virobloc-locking. This is a ring, which can be pivoted around the hinge point. This causes blocking of the blade.  
   


This version features a convenient leather string.

Ik heb al meer dan 20 jaar hetzelfde Opinel-mesje, een no 6 carbone. Vooral gebruikt tijdens wandel/kampeervakanties voor fruit, kaas enzovoort. Ongeveer net zo lang heb ik ook al een no 12, maar dat is eigenlijk alleen als broodmes gebruikt tijdens diezelfde kampeervakanties.

Het zijn geweldige, zeer scherp te slijpen messen voor een heel zacht prijsje.

Naast de Eden 102 die in mijn EDC-telefoonhoesje zit, wilde ik een wat groter mesje in mijn handtas hebben, maar mijn Eden 106 vond ik daar iets te zwaar voor, en ook minder prettig voor voedsel door het dikkere lemmet.

Ik besloot dit keer een roestvrijstalen Opinel te kiezen, met een touwtje eraan om hem eventueel ergens aan te kunnen bevestigen. De kleurtjes waren een bonus. Dus het werd de no 7 baroudeur. Geen idee waarom hij baroudeur heet, het is voor zover ik kan zien gewoon een normale Opinel (behalve het touwtje).

Scherp, zoals altijd. Het roestvrijstalen lemmet is ietsje dikker dan het roestende. 

Het blokkeermechanisme is iets veranderd in die 20 jaar, je kunt het mes nu ook blokkeren als het gesloten is, da's wel mooi, maar ik heb al een paar keer verwoed zitten proberen het mes te openen met de blokkering erop!

Opinel, gewoon goed voor een mooie prijs. Ik zou ze niet direct als survivalmes karakteriseren, maar volgens mij kom je er een heel eind mee, als ik alle video's op internet mag geloven.

Een ding: als het houten handvat nat wordt, zet het uit en kun je het mes niet openen. Hou het dus droog en laat het open drogen (op een veilige plek) als het toch nat is geworden in de afwas of anderszins.
