Spyderco introduced the Byrd collection as a more affordable alternative for the famous, but often more expensive Spyderco knives.
The knives are produced in China based on Spyderco's quality standards using good designs and materials. The blades are made from 8Cr13MoV stainless steel, which is comparable to the Japanese AUS8 stainless steel in terms of quality.
The Byrd Cara Cara model with fibreglass reinforced nylon handle and steel liners is a great example from this collection.
The modified clippoint blade is easy to open with one hand with the comet-shaped hole in the blade, and locks when opened with a decent and reliable back-lock.
As an extra safety precaution this back-lock has been enhanced with a so-called Boye-dent; a crescent-shaped cut-out that makes sure the knife won't close during heavy-duty use.
This knife is enhanced with a decent pocket clip you can attach in four different ways. It enables you to choose between a 'tip-up' or 'tip-down' carry and left and right-handed use.
|Right or left-handed||left-handed, right-handed|
|Blade shape||drop point|
