Bushcraft pocket knife: compact and portable
Most people will picture a fixed-blade knife when thinking of a bushcraft knife. While many bushcraft knives do have a fixed blade, this is not always the case. Pocket knives can also be perfectly suitable for bushcraft tasks! Especially for more delicate wood carving, bushcraft pocket knives are perfect. Many bushcraft enthusiasts carry a pocket knife as an addition or back-up to their fixed blade. Use the pocket knife for smaller, precise tasks, while use the large knife for tough jobs.
Pocket knife for bushcraft vs. fixed-blade bushcraft knife
A bushcraft pocket knife is not the strongest option for tough bushcraft tasks. It is sometimes jokingly said that a pocket knife is 'by definition broken' because it folds. This makes a fixed blade knife a safer choice for heavy-duty use. In contrast, a bushcraft pocket knife is ideal for light cutting tasks, such as wood carving. Never use a pocket knife for batoning; these knives are specifically designed for carving.
