Acacia wood cutting board

An acacia wood cutting board stands out mainly for its colour: warm honey brown, with a lively grain that varies from tree to tree. That means no two boards are exactly the same. Acacia is also hard and dense, so it absorbs little moisture and gives you a solid surface to work on. Acacia wood cutting boards are available in various sizes, from small cutting boards to large serving boards.

Features of an acacia wood cutting board

An acacia wood cutting board is harder and denser than a board made from, for example, beech or walnut wood. That dense structure means the wood absorbs little moisture or odour: if you clean the board properly after use, you will not notice yesterday’s onion smell in it any more. At the same time, the wood stays soft enough to protect your knives, because the surface gives slightly under the edge.

Colour is the second reason. The wood already has a naturally warm tone and, after one coat of oil, becomes a shade deeper, with a lively grain pattern that varies from board to board.

One thing remains true: wood and the dishwasher do not go together. Rinse the board after use, dry it with a cloth and stand it upright to dry. Treat the wood about once a month with cutting board oil. You can read exactly how to do that in maintenance of a wooden cutting board. Still unsure about the wood type?
