Features of Yaxell Rei
The Rei series from Yaxell is designed for those seeking a little something extra in a kitchen knife. Not just in terms of performance, but also in terms of style. The series offers a wide range of blade shapes, ensuring you have the right tool for every cutting technique. Whether you’re chopping vegetables, carving meat or filleting fish: every knife is designed for a specific purpose and feels perfectly suited to the task.
Yaxell Rei blade
The blade is made up of 69 layers of damascus steel with a VG10 core. This core ensures high wear resistance, meaning the knife stays sharp for a long time. What’s more, the blade has been ground to a fine edge, which you’ll notice straight away in the kitchen: it cuts smoothly and with precision through ingredients, from a soft tomato to a firm piece of meat.
The blade features a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, which gives it a deep, almost black finish. The distinctive damask patterns remain subtly visible beneath the surface. The coating does more than just look good: thanks to its high hardness, the blade is particularly scratch-resistant. Furthermore, the coating has low friction, allowing the knife to glide smoothly through ingredients. The coating also helps to reduce rust formation.
Yaxell Rei handle
The handle is made from black and red pakka wood and has a traditional octagonal shape. This not only gives the knife an authentic Japanese look, but also ensures a comfortable and secure grip. The subtle red accents and the mosaic pin featuring a samurai family crest really bring the whole look together. The handle contributes to the knife’s light weight and excellent balance. You’ll notice this straight away: it feels comfortable and stable in the hand. Whether you’re working quickly or making precise cuts, the knife moves smoothly with you and gives you plenty of control whilst cutting.
